KrisNaessens
Kris Naessens received the degree in electrical engineering from Ghent University (Belgium) in 1997 and then joined the Department of Information Technology as research engineer. One year later he started his research on laser micromachining with emphasis on excimer laser ablation. In the Photonics group of prof. Baets he developed a novel fabrication technique for microlenses, essentially introducing laser processing of optics in the package of optoelectronic chips.
In January 2003 he received his PhD degree and then focused his research on design&assembly of novel connectors for telecom networks in IWT-LIAM, together with VUB and Tyco Electronics.
In January 2006 his research efforts shifted towards microfluidic devices for life science applications. Together with two other Photonics group members, Bert Luyssaert and Ronny Bockstaele, he is member of the founding team of a new spin-off: Trinean NV.

His professional interests include design, fabrication, assembly and characterisation of micro-optical and microfluidic components.
