Photonics-electronics convergence

Silicon photonic integrated circuits allows for the dense integration of photonic integrated circuits with electronic ICs. This enables optical systems that can operate with lower power consumption. Also, novel functionality can be implemented on the silicon waveguide platform due to the close proximity of the electronic ICs. This research area explores the potential of the dense integration of photonic and electronic ICs both in terms of system performance and novel functionality.
