Mid IR silicon photonics In this research area we develop photonic circuit technology that allows integrating optical functionality in the mid-infrared wavelength range. The target application is spectroscopic sensing systems integrated on a chip. The research deals with silicon-based passive waveguide circuits covering the 2-8um wavelength range based on silicon-on-insulator and germanium-on-silicon wafers, and explores the integration of short-wave infrared and mid-infrared laser sources and photodetectors on these waveguide circuits. Besides circuit technology development, also sensor systems for real life applications are being developed.
