Abstract
Gradient optical forces in integrated devices have recently attracted a lot of attention since they might provide a novel route towards all-optically tunable components. In this talk I will review the basic physics of optomechanics and discuss silicon waveguide-waveguide optomechanical interactions in more detail and in addition explain why both attractive and repulsive forces between the nanophotonic waveguides can be obtained. Finally I will show that combining optical resonators/cavities with optomechanics enables exciting applications like optically tunable filters or optical cooling of micromechanical resonators. |
